Intercultural Ambassador
As an intercultural ambassador, I learned different ways to develop intercultural connections across campus. In the beginning, different workshops were developed by an intercultural coordinator to brainstorm different ways to promote a more inclusive and adverse community across TRU campus. Different ways of communication were discussed among the workshops. Intercultural communication styles such as negotiating common meaning as well as high and low context communication. In addition, several factors that influence intercultural communication were addressed as well. Personally, this helped me gain better understanding and awareness to find the appropriate message to an individual coming from another culture. Therefore, examples from this ideas were observed in workshops. At the final part of this program, i had the chance to develop and execute intercultural projects across campus and students. I was involved in a workshop with 2 more students about Plurilingual Communication. IDays was one of the major events that we used for our projects. In addition, a putlock and showcase days were shown in major events in TRU.
Buddy Program (ITC)
For almost over a year, I had the chance to be involved in this program by International Training Centre from TRU. This program is called International student Buddy program. This program is designed for international students to meet other international students across the world and welcome them as if it was your first day when you arrived to TRU as an international student. I personally felt as if i had an adventurous journey on my hands. Eventually, i had the chance to giving the international students a tour of the different places among TRU campus and Kamloops as well. From restaurants and parks to shopping in Aberdeen Mall, i truly had a wonderful experience with my students. At the end, i was able to experience their culture and showing them enjoyable moments with them.
